"C'mon people now, smile on your brother, everybody . . .
GET TOGETHER . . .
. . . try and love one another right now.”
We start the year off with a line from The Youngblood’s classic “Get Together” because there are a lot of weird, strange, and yet welcomed rumors and reports coming in from all over the planet about the reunion of a whole lotta bands.
According to Van Halen’s web site, “Van Halen will tour in 2012.” This news was posted with a video that featured guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, and original lead singer David Lee Roth. At the bottom of the video reads: “ First tickets on sale January 10."
Then we heard that The Allman Brothers Band will be given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys. We think it’s great and long overdue. The question, of course, is will Dickey Betts be present and part of the ceremony? There is absolutely no question that he should be and we hope it happens. Maybe then the guys can all put their differences aside and go out on the road together at least one more time. I mean, if The Beach Boys can do it again, any group can, and last month the founding members of that band announced that they will reunite for a global 50th Anniversary tour. That means that Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and David Marks will all return to the band that Mike Love has kept together all these years with, although not an original long-time band member, Bruce Johnston. Not only will they tour, but there is also talk of a new studio album. The first gig is scheduled for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (“Jazz Fest”) in the Spring.

In their official press release Mike Love said, “We got together at Capitol Records and re-recorded ‘Do It Again.’ Brian and I wrote that song which went to number 1 in Great Britain, Australia and elsewhere some 44 years ago. Brian paid me a compliment saying, ‘How can a guy sound that great so many years later?’ Later on, while working out some harmonies on a new song Brian had written, I got a chance to return the compliment. It was a thrill to be around a piano again with Brian, Alan and Bruce and experience firsthand the brilliance of Cousin Brian's gift for vocal arrangements. I am very much looking forward to David Marks joining us and thrilling with his surf guitar licks. Music has been the unifying and harmonizing fact of life in our family since childhood. It has been a huge blessing that we have been able to share with the world. Wouldn't It Be Nice to Do It Again? Absolutely!”
Another band you may have heard of called The Rolling Stones will also celebrate Their 50th Anniversary this year and the rumors of a tour are running wild. Bestselling author and Stones guitarist Keith Richards told the Los Angeles Times: "The Stones still work. I know it’s an all important point, but there's nothing more I'm going to say about that. But the Stones will pull it together. It always comes easy once you get the bunch of guys together. It's the getting the guys together that's the hard part." Last month the group jammed in Chelsea, London. Bill Wyman was there on all three days. Mick Taylor hasn’t been seen, but the way this year is shaping up it seems that anything can happen.
Want More? No problem…two months ago Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward revealed that Black Sabbath are reuniting for its first new album in 33 years and a 2012 world tour.
"It was time," said Osbourne of the reunion. "The timing was right."
"It's now or never," Iommi said.
Now or never indeed, Happy New Year everybody…..this one has some serious potential…..we got live if you want it!
